![]() ![]() Like the Mega Sg and Super Nt, the Duo superbly fills a retro gaming niche and earns our Editors’ Choice award. It makes TG16 and PCE games look and sound fantastic while offering a much more accurate experience than software emulation-based systems like the TurboGrafx-16 Mini. At $249.99, the Duo's more expensive than the $199.99 Super Nt and Mega Sg, but its ability to play both game cards and CDs makes it more flexible than either (it can read burned CD-Rs and therefore run homebrewed, translation patched, and unlicensed discs). Specifically, it works like a TurboDuo, the more advanced system that was compatible with HuCards (the original system's card-like cartridge format) and CD-ROMs. The Analogue Duo is a modern retro console designed to work like a TG16 or PCE, just like the Analogue Super Nt works like an SNES and the Mega Sg works like a Genesis. That’s why the TurboGrafx-16 Mini is one of my favorite retro mini consoles and why Analogue has released the Duo. ![]() The system's many games are obscure or completely unknown to American audiences, but the library has real gems. It was one of Japan's top-selling consoles during the 8-bit and 16-bit eras, but a distant third to the Sega Genesis and Super NES when it appeared in the United States as the TurboGrafx-16.
